Which Glock® pistol model do you own?
Glock® pistols names usually feature the model number, and usually the Generation (Gen), and sometimes also a letter.
You can find out your precise model by looking at your Glock® pistol closely in two places: on left side of the slide, and sometimes also at the grip handle.
STEP 1: LOOK AT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SLIDE
Look closely at the inscription on the left side of the slide:
- Gen5 and the model number will be inscribed on the side of the slide. For example this Glock® 17 Gen5 looks like this:

- Gen5 is not inscribed on 19X, 17M, or 19M, but they are equivalent to Gen5 for our purposes:

- Gen4 will be inscribed on the side of the slide. For example, a Glock® 23 Gen4 looks like this:

If there is no mention of a Gen, and it’s some other model, then go to STEP 2 and look at the grip handle.
STEP 2: LOOK AT THE GRIP HANDLE
Gen3
- No Gen inscribed on the side of the slide,
- Finger grooves with checkering on the front of the grip handle
- Crinkle pattern texture on the side of the grip handle

Gen2:
- No Gen inscribed on the side of the slide,
- Straight front with checkering of the grip handle with no finger grooves
- Crinkle pattern texture only on the sides of the grip handle
If the front of the handle is straight without any finger grooves, has checkering on the front, and crinkled pattern checkering on the sides, it’s a Gen2

Gen1 (not tested with any CoolFire Trainer models):
- No Gen inscribed on the side of the slide,
- Straight grip handle with no finger grooves
- Crinkle pattern texture all around the grip handle
